VersiMarket’s CTO and co-founder, Vanielle Lee, embodies this lifestyle. Having visited over 20 different countries in her relatively short lifespan, she currently operates out of Seoul, South Korea, as a freelance software engineer. According to her, witnessing her close friends exploring the world propelled her to make a significant career pivot. While a traditional 9-to-5 in Silicon Valley was financially rewarding, she recognized the need for a more balanced work-life dynamic.
Initially, she pursued jobs that promised a better work-life balance as a software engineer, but she realized that very few companies cater to such needs. Ultimately, she embarked on her journey as a freelance software engineer, which provided her with more freedom, albeit at the cost of the financial security a regular job offers. She recalls balancing client work with the frantic search for gigs on platforms like Upwork, hoping for her next paycheck.
Through her connection with Osar Iyamu and her ongoing position with VersiMarket, she feels fortunate to have more avenues to “explore the world” while enjoying the “stability akin to a 9-to-5 job.” VersiMarket, she notes, mitigates the uncertainties typical of freelancing, enabling her to plan her time more effectively.
“I could eventually journey to places like Singapore or even Brazil, assured of my income next week, while maintaining a steady workflow,” she explained. “It’s challenging to plan for the future when the immediate is often unpredictable, but the best aspect of being part of VersiMarket is it provides substantial flexibility to consider my future.”
