The Challenge: Inputting Inventory Data (SN and Lot #) in Work Orders Manually

Automating work orders through a NetSuite Suitelet can significantly enhance your business’s speed and efficiency. Unfortunately, many companies lack the time or expertise to create customized Suitelets. Missouri Star Quilt Company (MSQC), a client of VersiMarket, faced challenges in recording individual work orders in NetSuite. It consumed excessive time to find a particular work order, only to deal with the hassle of inputting inventory details manually for just one assembly build.

The Solution: Automating Work Orders, SN and Lot # via Custom NetSuite Suitelets

VersiMarket connected MSQC with NetSuite expert Thierry Klesse to address their work order issues. By creating two custom Suitelets, Thierry dramatically improved their business processes. Upholding VersiMarket’s commitment to efficiency, Thierry’s Suitelets enabled MSQC to merely scan a work order, instantly displaying all relevant details about that order: the work order number, assembly item, product image, quantity to build, serial/lot number, bin, and more. Additionally, serial and lot numbers were set to autofill based on pre-defined criteria, while the bin field employed an algorithm for autofill based on established parameters. After submitting a work order, the page would automatically return to the original screen, facilitating rapid scanning of work orders.

The Results from Automating Work Orders

After implementing the solution and after several weeks of use, I inquired with the main contact at the customer on the solution’s performance and any issues. He informed me that there were no problems and, further, the operations department noticed a measurable reduction in the time required for cutting fabrics. He was pleased to report that the time taken for the cutting fabrics process had been improved by 75%. As a developer and consultant, the impact of solutions can often feel abstract, yet it’s always fulfilling to see how effectively implemented solutions translate to tangible benefits for my clients.
